10th edition of the CASSINI Hackathons: EU Space for Consumer Experience
Curious about how European Space technologies can transform your daily life? The 10th Cassini Hackathon invites developers, designers, entrepreneurs, and other enthusiasts to imagine bold new ways to connect people with the world around them.
In 10 different locations across and beyond Europe, teams will have the opportunity to use EU Space data from Copernicus, Galileo, and EGNOS to address gaming, sport experiences, and sustainable ways of travel.
CASSINI Hackathons & Mentoring - The EU’s innovation hubs
Through the EU Space Programme, the European Union runs the CASSINI Hackathons and Mentoring initiative as part of its broader mission to drive innovation.. The hackathon series gives participants the opportunity to leverage Europe’s space technologies to design solutions that make a real difference.
There is more to win than money
Winners at the European level will be awarded prizes of up to €5,000, but there is more than a monetary reward. Through entering a six-month mentoring programme with 100 hours of tailored, expert guidance, the winning team will gain the support needed to turn their concepts into real products and services. This mentorship ensures that ideas do not stop at the prototype stage, but can grow into viable businesses with lasting impact for society.
The space community and how to use its data
By joining the hackathon, you become part of a vibrant community of innovators who collaborate, share ideas, and inspire each other to create meaningful solutions. Alongside this network, participants will learn how to work with the free-to-use EU space data from Copernicus, Galileo, and EGNOS, gaining hands-on experience in transforming raw data into real, working solutions. If that interests you, register and build your team..
The Hackathon challenge: fostering innovation for everyone
Similar to the previous Hackathons, this 10th edition will have three challenges. Each of them will require innovative ideas, space data resources, and the EU’s brightest minds.
Challenge 1: Immersive gameplay with space technology & data
The gaming industry has become one of the largest and fastest-growing entertainment sectors worldwide, with millions of users engaging daily. In this challenge, participants are invites to leverage EU Space data and technologies to transform the gaming experience. Solutions may focus on creating entirely new gameplay concepts, introducing innovative in-game mechanics, or enhancing existing features with space-enabled capabilities. Participants are encouraged to explore how Earth Observation (EO) and navigation data can drive immersion, realism, and interactivity in ways that redefine digital play.
Challenge 2: Space-powered performance - transforming sports
Sports continue to inspire and unite people worldwide, from athletes striving for excellence to fans seeking unforgettable experiences. This challenge calls on participants to apply Copernicus EO data and Galileo positioning services to advance the future of sports. Solutions may include tools for optimizing training, improving performance analytics, or enhancing the fan experience both inside and outside the stadium.
Challenge 3: Beyond horizons - redefining travel with space innovation
Travel and exploration are evolving, shaped by new expectations for more personalized and meaningful experiences. With the help of Copernicus, Galileo, and EGNOS, journeys can become safer, more reliable, and better adapted to individual needs. At the same time, sustainability remains a crucial priority, with space-enabled solutions offering opportunities to reduce environmental impact, promote greener tourism, and protect the natural world. Together, these dimensions open the door to a future where travel is personal, safe, and environmentally responsible.
