JA Startup Hambar,

Sofia

On-site

Join the Hackathon in Sofia!

Is it time to add space technology skills – and a real project – to your resumé? Join the 11th CASSINI Hackathon to access EU space data and develop a solution which protects our natural water resources.

You don’t need any experience: you’ll get all the training and tools to utilise EU space data and tackle the issues of water scarcity, flooding, or pollution. Over three days in Sofia, you’ll hear from experts in space tech and environmental industries. You’ll learn how to access datasets from Copernicus, EGNOS and Galileo. Then you’ll connect with other professionals to form a multi-skilled team. This edition has three challenges on the theme of water:

  1. Securing equitable and efficient access to water
  2. Tracking and preventing water pollution
  3. Disaster risk monitoring

Recently, Bulgaria has been affected by severe floods, and this has focused greater attention on urban planning, flood response planning, and adaptation strategies. Our mild winters and decreased rainfall have damaged the agricultural sector and brought water shortages to many cities and villages. In this edition of the Hackathon, Challenges 1 and 3 are locally pressing, and viable solutions present valuable business opportunities.

We have a lot to talk about and many problems to solve! Join us to explore the ways that space data could help to protect and preserve our water resources – and begin building your own environmental start-up.

About the Organisers

The event will be organised by Mozaika and Digital Spaces Living Lab, with the support of our media partner Ratio and others.

Mozaika, the Humanizing Technologies Lab, is an SME focused on research and solutions in data science and AI, which leverages data science and natural interfaces to create systems tailored to human behaviour, attitudes, and comprehension, building intelligent information infrastructures across multiple sectors. For over 10 years, Mozaika has developed ISME-HYDRO, a water resources management platform powered by Earth Observation and AI, supporting river and dam monitoring, emergency response planning, and climate adaptation. Mozaika has also organised international conferences for World Water Day and participated in global forums on EO and water management.

Digital Spaces Living Lab is one of the leading living labs in Europe, which in the last 14 years has conducted over 45 large-scale technology validation trials in the fields of smart cities, museums, smart agriculture, Earth Observation and location-based services, mobile apps, wearables, etc. It has been the co-organiser of the Galileo Living Lab Prize competition for many years and of several hackathons and makeathons. DSLL is the creator of LLcloud, a multi-sensor cloud platform enabling seamless integration and joint analysis of Earth Observation, IoT, and wearable sensor data.

Ratio has been on a mission for the past 15 years to reintroduce science and intellectual discourse into the broader cultural landscape. By positioning it alongside other forms of cultural recreation such as theatre and cinema, Ratio aims to transform science communication into a new form of intellectual entertainment.
