CASSINI Space Camps 2025 in Cyprus!

Join the CASSINI Space Camp in Chandria village in the Troodos Mountains!

The CASSINI Space Camps is a European Union initiative that empowers youth to explore the space industry through hands-on learning, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving. The Cyprus edition brings together young people aged 14-18 for 10 days of immersive STEAM workshops, real-world project-based learning, expert mentoring, and space-themed outdoor activities in Chandria village in the Pitsilia Valley at the Troodos mountains.

The CASSINI Space Camp Cyprus 2025, is more than just a summer camp—it's a transformative educational journey designed to immerse young learners in the future of space, science, and innovation. Through interdisciplinary learning, hands-on prototyping, and daily collaboration with real scientists and space experts, participants will develop the critical skills, mindset, and civic awareness needed for the space economy and the digital future. The camp promotes entrepreneurship, ethical reasoning, sustainability, and youth innovation, connecting space science with Earth’s challenges to empower the next generation of leaders, creators, and changemakers.

Practical information

Young people aged 14 to 18 enrolled in a school in an EU member state, interested in space, science, technology, or entrepreneurship. You don’t need prior experience—just a strong motivation to learn and collaborate!

 

The camp is FREE of charge!

Yes! From lunch on 7 June, all meals are provided (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
🍽️ On the first day, please eat breakfast at home or bring a snack, as the first meal will be late afternoon (around 15:00).
On the last day (17 June), food will be prepared as a lunch box and taken along for our visit to the Cyprus Planetarium before departure.

Special dietary requirements can be facilitated.

The CASSINI Space Camp Cyprus 2025 is built around a dynamic curriculum combining theory, practice, and creativity. Over 11 days, you will explore key areas of the European space ecosystem, innovation, and planetary sustainability through:

  • 🛰️  Introduction to the Space Industry – Who works in space, how the sector is growing, and what NewSpace means for Europe.
  • 🌍 Space-for-Earth Applications – How satellites help tackle climate change, disasters, marine protection, and food security.
  • 🚀 Entrepreneurship & Innovation – How to turn ideas into startups using space data and design thinking.
  • 👩‍🚀 Careers in Space – Explore real career paths beyond astronauts, build your own career roadmap, and discover your personal USP.
  • 🔬 Space Exploration & Technology – Learn how we explore the cosmos through history, amateur science, rockets, VR, and HAM radio.
  • 🪐 Space Governance & Ethics – Debate who owns space, what is ethical, and how to use AI and satellite data responsibly.
  • 🛠️  Hackathon Projects – Team up to develop a space-tech solution for a real-world challenge, using AI, satellite data, or multimedia.
  • 📣 Science Communication Skills – Learn to pitch your ideas, communicate science, and express your voice on future space matters.

All learning is project-based, supported through a Learning Management System (LMS), and designed to help you build a digital e-portfolio showcasing your skills, creativity, and impact.

You’ll also develop transversal skills like teamwork, public speaking, digital literacy, systems thinking, and problem-solving – all essential for your future.

The STEMFREAK team is responsible for the daily implementation, educational support, expert integration, LMS management, and documentation of the full camp programme from 7–17 June 2025.

Day 0 – Arrival & Orientation

Vision: Welcome participants and introduce them to Cyprus’ innovation ecosystem.

  • Begin forming camp community, team spirit, and curiosity about space careers.

Day 1 – Introduction to the Space Industry

Vision: Set the foundation for understanding space science and the new space economy.
Outcomes:

  • Identify key actors and missions in space exploration.
  • Engage in creative science communication (Science Slam).
  • Begin thinking critically about humanity’s relationship with the cosmos.

Day 2 – Space-for-Earth Applications

Vision: Show how space technologies address Earth’s most pressing challenges.
Outcomes:

  • Explore real-time environmental monitoring through Copernicus.
  • Create AI-powered digital content to communicate Earth observation insights.
  • Understand the societal impact of space data in areas like marine health and climate.

Day 3 – Space Entrepreneurship & Innovation

Vision: Inspire entrepreneurial thinking through innovation case studies and team challenges.
Outcomes:

  • Design space-based business ideas and practice pitching them.
  • Understand team dynamics and ideation through startup simulation.
  • Explore astrobiology and career development through expert keynotes.

Day 4 – Careers & VR in the Space Industry

Vision: Expand career horizons and explore immersive technologies shaping the sector.
Outcomes:

  • Map out personal career paths with guidance from experts.
  • Use VR to explore lunar and Martian environments.
  • Debate ethical trade-offs in space investments vs. Earth needs.

Day 5 – Space Exploration & Technology in Practice

Vision: Experience the excitement of applied space technologies and exploration.
Outcomes:

  • Simulate missions with Kerbal and launch activities.
  • Gain hands-on experience with HAM radio technology and orbital tracking.
  • Reflect on astronomy through creative night sessions (art & observation).

Day 6 – Governance, Ethics & Communication

Vision: Foster ethical reasoning, global citizenship, and science communication.
Outcomes:

  • Create ethical policy briefs on space governance.
  • Engage in mock legal debate and peer-led presentations.
  • Reflect on inclusion and responsibility in innovation ecosystems.

Day 7 – Hackathon Kick-Off

Vision: Launch the entrepreneurial phase—collaborative design for space innovation.
Outcomes:

  • Form teams and align on missions.
  • Begin ideation, project planning, and stakeholder mapping.
  • Engage in policy debates around the control and future of space innovation.

Day 8 – Hackathon Development

Vision: Build solutions with guidance from mentors and peer feedback.
Outcomes:

  • Use prototyping tools and dashboards to create working solutions.
  • Strengthen team collaboration and manage project timelines.
  • Explore the night sky with peer-led astronomy mapping.

Day 9 – Hackathon Finalisation & Communication

Vision: Refine, test, and prepare final presentations with ethical reflection.
Outcomes:

  • Finalise prototypes and pitch decks.
  • Practice persuasive communication and receive iterative feedback.
  • Participate in a philosophical debate on the social role of technology.

Day 10 – Final Showcase & Recognition

Vision: Celebrate achievement, reflect on learning, and connect with the wider ecosystem.
Outcomes:

  • Present projects to experts and institutional partners.
  • Receive certification and jury feedback.
  • Reflect on personal growth, goals, and civic engagement through space.

 

The camp activities will be conducted in English. 

Yes. Accomodation, food and facilities are fully covered.

List of things for campers to bring with them:

Please note that at night the temperature drops significantly, so warm clothes are a necessity.

  1. Laptop (for workshops and project development)   
  2. Pillow, bed sheets (3 individual sheets), pillowcase, blanket or sleeping bag.
  3. Towels (for bathing and separate for morning routine)
  4. Personal hygiene items (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, etc)
  5. Underwear & socks for 10 days
  6. Jockey cap or Hat
  7. Trousers, Shorts, sweat pants, T-shirts and long-sleeved shirts for 10 days
  8. Jumpers (φούτερ) or jacket.
  9. 2 pairs of shoes (sneakers and trainers or hiking boots)
  10. Slippers (flip-flops or other) for showering.
  11. Bathing Suits (for showering)
  12. Waterproof Bag (for change of clothes during showers)
  13. Plastic Bags (for dirty clothes)
  14. Flashlight or headlamp
  15. Writing equipment (notepads, pens, pencils etc)

    Please note that if any contraband item is found in the possession of campers, it will be confiscated by the camp leaders and will be returned at the end of the camp.
